Creativity and escapism through nostalgia
A visual diary
-2020-
"Being in a nostalgic mindset takes away a layer of limitations and helps expand the mind, according to Harvey Kaplan’s 1987 paper. [...]
Especially in modern culture, by framing a photo, we choose to alter the reality we see and refine what we communicate. We never show ‘the full picture’. And the one thing that counters this is nostalgia. When looking at old photographs, I can’t help but notice that the photos were truly taken to capture only one specific glimpse of emotion or memory. I feel oddly responsible to take care of these memories for the people in the pictures and even make new ones with it by interpreting freely without having any boundaries set by time or space. This is why I decided to make collages out of my collected vintage photos to illustrate a dream-landscape of where my mind wanders to when escaping my own reality for a short while."
